Flashes of Hope at UNC Hospital

Somehow February feels like it was three years ago. Even though it’s only been sixty days since I created these images for Flashes of Hope families at UNC Children’s Hospital, a lot has happened. I’m sure I don’t need to fill you in on what happened because it’s happening to all of us just the same.

About a month before we were asked to stay home and I saw anyone in public wearing a facemask, I got to try on my first surgical mask. It’s sometimes necessary to wear a mask, gown, and gloves when entering the rooms of certain patients. The usual masks are the simple ones you see out in public with elastic that loop around your ears. The problem was, because of the pandemic, even the hospital was running short on those, so we wore surgical masks instead. Surgical masks are a good deal sturdier and require tying the strings around your head; not a fan, but we do what we need to do to get the shot.

This session produced some of my favorite FOH photos in quite a while I am profoundly grateful to have been there that day.
