Another year of bridal fashion has gone to print and it's hands down one of my favorite collaborations from my last thirteen years shooting fashion for Weddings Lookbook. This year we chose a theme that was a little dreamy and a lot fantastical. Photographically, it allowed a vast amount of creative freedom both behind the camera and in front of the computer. All of the images you see are composites, meaning they are created by bringing several photos together. Some are simple ...

It was just the right set of conditions for this winter engagement session. Southern Pines was warm enough to keep Taylor and Clark comfortable only as long as we stayed on the move. The charming downtown provided us with so many great backgrounds, we could have played for hours. They even got their little dog Moses in on the action.Phase two, however, was a totally different look for both wardrobe and scenery. We soon found ourselves in wide-open spaces and worked through a gorgeous sunset ...

We had a great time creating a fun and creative portrait for Morgan. We wanted the whimsical feel of a three-dimensional person in a two-dimensional scene. I remember as a kid there was this short cartoon about a kid named Simon who would make chalk drawings that came alive and he could walk through them. That's a little of the feel we were going for.We met at her neighborhood and were fortunate that it had a shuffleboard court. I loved the color of the court and used my drone ...

Somehow February feels like it was three years ago. Even though it’s only been sixty days since I created these images for Flashes of Hope families at UNC Children’s Hospital, a lot has happened. I’m sure I don’t need to fill you in on what happened because it’s happening to all of us just the same. About a month before we were asked to stay home and I saw anyone in public wearing a facemask, I got to try on my first surgical mask. It’s sometimes ...

Running from campus police, stepping on a hornet nest and ending up in the emergency room are all things that definitely didn’t happen on this awesome summertime engagement session. Got your attention though.Bethany and Tim met on campus and are getting married in Duke Chapel later in the year, so on one of their planning visits to Durham we set out to create a few engagement portraits that reflect the feel of that part of campus.

Priyal and Shrinivas were married at the Landfall Club in Wilmington, NC. The weather was perfect, the colors and textures were gorgeous and the mood was festive. My favorite part of the day was at the beginning of the ceremony when the priest announced: "This will be a modern, abbreviated ceremony, so it will only last three to four hours."The images below show the final layout of their wedding album. I love a good before and after example. This image was created outside the Rialto Theater in Raleigh for Bunn DJ Company. It was getting close to dusk and there was a ton of traffic going by. The hardest part was capturing frames between cars. The initial capture is drab, dull, boring. I know this. I intentionally exposed the scene darker than normal, in order to balance the marquee light and the lights from the cars as my starting point. From there, pretty basic tone manipulation and texture ...

A lot of folks don’t realize that taking a photo is, maybe on a good day, about 1/10th of what a photographer does. I’m not whining I promise, and I hope this example proves the point. The fashion shoot for the 2019 issue of Weddings Look Book was scheduled to shoot in mid-August. In this part of the world, lavender blooms peak around late June and don’t tend to stay around for months. Having that knowledge four months in advance allowed me to have a plan in place well ...

We made our way back to the Umstead Hotel for this early fall wedding. The flower arrangements by Kelly Odom were absolutely stunning and the band had the party people going into the wee hours of the morning

The UNC campus provides so many different looks for an engagement session. We’re often asked by couples, “Can we bring our dog to the session?” The answer is, “That would be great!”
